FlOWKONtrol

Background & Goals

Due to increasing installed generation capacity in the low-voltage grid (LV) and the expected electrification of the heat and transport sectors, future voltage and congestion problems are to be expected. This requires investment in the LV networks. A cost-effective measure may in some cases be the coupling of individual local networks.

The aim of the project is the development of a power flow controller for the coupling of LV networks under technical and economic aspects. By a load flow control at the coupling point a more moderate utilization of network sections compared to the uncontrolled coupling in the example can be achieved.

Publicly funded joint project

"Flexible power flow controller for optimized active power transmission in the coupling of local networks (FLOWKONTrol)" is a joint project and is funded under the 6th Energy Research Program of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).

In addition to the Chair of Energy Systems and Energy Management of the University of Kaiserslautern, the following partners are involved in the project:

  • Pfalzwerke AG
  • Pfalzwerke Netz AG

Project duration: 01.10.2018 - 30.09.2020
