Core competence (40 ECTS)
Core competence of automation and control is the theory of control engineering. Based on the basic knowledge of linear and discrete-time system theory, the core courses of the master's program focus on advanced methods for nonlinear and adaptive control, optimization-based control, robust and fault-tolerant control, digital systems and logical control, methods for modeling and parameter identification of dynamic systems.
Real-time Control Systems (RCS)
The specialization RCS represents the (rather classical) component-oriented automation technology with a stronger relation to applications in mechatronics, robotics, (electrical) vehicle technology, power electronics, drive technology as well as process engineering. The interdisciplinary proximity of RCS to mechanical/process engineering is strong.
Connected Automation Systems (CAS)
The specialization CAS contains more aspects of system-oriented automation technology for (spatially distributed and) networked, mobile or structurally variable and cooperative systems with applications in Industry 4.0, autonomous systems and infrastructure as well as supply systems. The interdisciplinary proximity of CAS to computer science/systems biology is strong.
Elective modules
Within the chosen major there are not only mandatory courses, but also some elective modules so that you can create your profile as individually as possible. In addition, there are technical electives that you can select from:
- A wide range of modules from the EIT department
- Subject-related modules from other TUK departments, and
- Individual student research projects, carried out preferably in small teams
Autonomous vehicles, cooperative robotics, smart grids and buildings, networked systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), learning algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) are just a few terms for the next generation of intelligent automation. Principles and design methods of these diverse technologies can be studied, e.g. in form of elective modules and experienced in practical use (project labs or student research projects).
