Best Paper Award at SAMOS conference 2023

Jonas Ney, Christoph Füllner, Vincent Lauinger, Laurent Schmalen, Sebastian Randel and Norbert Wehn were awarded the best paper award at the SAMOS conference 2023 for their paper "From Algorithm to Implementation: Enabling High-Throughput CNN-based Equalization on FPGA for Optical Communications".

The work presents a high-throughput FPGA implementation for the equalization of an optical fiber channel using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). It is based on a cross-layer design approach, featuring optimizations from algorithm down to the hardware architecture.  As a result, the FPGA implementation achieves the required throughput of 40 GBd, outperforming implementations on CPU and GPU by a large margin.
