Summer, sun, excursion - On one of the hottest days of 2024 so far, an excursion to Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern took place as part of the lecture "Grid Planning and Grid Management 1" of the Chair of Energy Systems and Energy Management. In addition to visiting the substation, the main focus was on gaining an understanding of the technical challenges of grid expansion. To this end, the Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern presented the standard medium and low-voltage cables, which the students were then allowed to try bending themselves. What sounds easy in theory turns out to be a difficult undertaking with arm-thick cables. The excursion was accompanied by interesting discussions about the implementation of the energy transition in Kaiserslautern.

Our special thanks go to Mr. Jürgen Welter and his colleagues as well as SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Versorgungs-AG for making the excursion possible and to Dr.-Ing. Helge Pluntke (e-Netz Südhessen AG/lecture "Grid Planning and Grid Management 1").
