"Rusty Saw" for Theoretical Electrical Engineering I-II
At the end of the winter semester, our student council as always invited students, staff, and professors of the EIT department for celebrating the award ceremony of the "Rusty Saw". The "Rusty Saw" is a challenge cup awarded every semester for the exam with the highest failure rate. At the same event, also the results of the course evaluation are presented and prizes for the best lectures and exercises are given.
Winner of the "Rusty Saw" in the winter semester 2017 was Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Marco Rahm with the exam "Theoretical Electrical Engineering I-II" (failure rate 83.3%). Following a long tradition, the poular challenge cup has found its way back to his "home" chair. With a failure rate of 70%, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Steven Liu achieved the second place with "Optimal Control". Place three was awarded to Dr.-Ing. Bernd Gutheil and his exam "Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering II" (57,5%).
The award for the best lecture was given to Dr.-Ing. Christian De Schryver and his new course "Introduction into Engineering Science Workflows" with a grade of 1.4. This course has been designed in close collaboration with the Self Directed Learning Cente (SLZ) at TUK and covers project and self management concepts and fundamentals of communications, presentations and written theses. Place two was achieved by PD Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Hauck and his course "Microcontrollers" (grade 1.57). Dr.-Ing. Matthias Jung achieved the third place with "SystemC and Virtual Prototyping" (grade 1.73) - also this course was offered for the first time in this semester.
The awards for the best exercise were given to Jun.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marc Herrlich for the exercise "Welcome to the real world: Natural User Interfaces und virtuelle Realität für Computerspiele" (first place, grade 1.3), Dipl.-Ing. Michael Karrenbauer for "Radio Frequency Technology" (second place, grade 1.36), and Dr.-Ing. Stefan Weithoffer and Javier Alejandro Varela M.Sc. for the exercise in "Synthesis and Optimization of Microelectronic Systems I" (third place, grade 1.65).
